Chemical Ingredients that should be avoided in a Skin Care Product

  • Paraben: I’m sure that many of you have come across the term as the component which prevents the growth of bacteria in yeast and therefore thinks it to be quite alright for the skin. But very few people know that parabens contain oestrogen mimicking properties that can be root cause of brain cancer and tumour.
  • Artificial Colours: Also known as Synthetic Colours, if you find that the skincare product you are using has the terms FD&C or D&C be very careful, because the product contains synthetic colours. Studies reveal that most of the synthetic colours are obtained from the petroleum and tar residues. Synthetic Colours are a sort of human carcinogen.
  • Phthalates: This one here is very risky, as is known to everyone, phthalates is used to soften plastic and increase its elasticity. The Phthalates are used in large quantities in nail polishes, in perfumes and in lotions and most commonly in hair sprays. The phthalates are known to be endocrine disruptors and are linked to be a cause of breast cancer and early breast development in young girls and might cause reproductive issues in both males and females.

But, the problem lies in the fact that most of these ingredients are not shown as being used in the label of the products. Therefore, to be safe rather than sorry it is better to switch over to organic products that are ECOCERT certified and will really give you a healthy skin without any side effects.
